Curriculum By Year

PGY-1

The PGY-1 year provides a comprehensive foundation of inpatient medicine. Residents complete core rotations in adult medicine, pediatrics (including newborns), general surgery, obstetrics, orthopedics, critical care medicine and emergency medicine. All residents are  scheduled a weekly family medicine continuity clinic at Rancho Family Medical Group.

PGY-2

Residents spend half of PGY-2 building on their inpatient skills. The remainder of the year focuses on ambulatory experiences in musculoskeletal and sports medicine, community medicine experiences (including nursing home rounds) and ambulatory pediatrics. PGY-2 residents also have the opportunity to begin exploring interest in a one month elective of their choice, with program director approval. During this time, residents continue to see patients in their family medicine continuity clinic.

PGY-3

Most of the PGY-3 year provides residents clinical experiences that are similar to post-residency. This includes ambulatory rotations in subspecialties such as cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology and pulmonology and surgical subspecialties such as urology and otolaryngology. PGY-3 residents continue to see patients in their family medicine continuity clinic and explore interests through electives.
